Supervision of a Drilling Campaign and Pumping Tests in Geneva

The Industrial Services of Geneva (SIG) commissioned our firm to carry out two exploratory boreholes in Thônex, Geneva State, including pumping tests to define the aquifer characteristics. This work made it possible to refine the understanding of the local geology and hydrogeology, which until then had remained largely unknown below the shallow aquifer horizon.

The first borehole, fully cored, reached the molasse formation at a depth of 103 metres. It provides valuable site-specific data and complements the hydrogeological characterisation of the Puplinge shallow aquifer, which our office has been investigating for more than a year.

The short film below illustrates the various stages of the project, from the mobilisation of drilling equipment and site installation, through drilling operations and core recovery, to pumping tests. Dropstone is proud to contribute actively to the strategic priorities of Geneva’s energy policy and to the development of geothermal energy as a clean, local, and renewable resource (www.geothermies.ch).

Our thanks to our cartographer and drone pilot, Javier Morales, for the images.
